Problems with attachments from friends?

Generally, these problems are encountered when a person sends you email with an attachment from one email package or version and you try to open it with a different email package. What happens is this... when you add an attatchment to your email to be sent to your friend, your email package has to encode this package properly to be sent via the Internet. One of the more common encoding methods is Base64. It's simple a mathmatical algorythm that takes binary information and converts it into text to be transmitted over the Internet via TCP/IP. When your friend recieves the email, thier package is SUPPOSED to "DEcode" the attachment back into its original format. Unfortunantly, this doesn't always work.

There are a couple of different ways to correct this problem. One, you can put some time and effort into learning your email packages attactment protocols and handling methods or, Two, you can download this simple little program.

Step 1.
Click here to download the program onto your machine.

Step 2.
Now that you've downloaded the installation package onto your computer you need to find it and then run it to install the actual decoding software. The easiest way to locate the file is to click on the "Start" menu and select "Find". Now select "Files or Folders".

Once the "Find Dialog" box comes up, type in "Msetup.exe" in the "Named:" field (see graphic). Next click on the "Find Now" button.

Once the system finds the file it will display it in a list connected to the bottom of the "Find Dialog" window. You should now Double-Click on the line that the file is in. This will start the installation process.

Once the installation is complete you'll find a new program group on your machine called "MIME decoder". Inside this program group is a program called "Fcode32", this stands for FastCode 32bit.

Run this program. You'll see the following window popup. Click on the "Decode" button, go out and locate the attachment that was in your email program and click open. This should decode the file back into its original format.
