OfficeTalk - FAQ |
Q. What are the requirements for OfficeTalk?
A. The following are services and protocols required for officetalk to work properly. Note that most of these items are installed in the vast marjority of networks in existance today. In some cases where there are larger groups of machines networked an MIS department may have elected to remove or not install some of these protocols or services. Please check with your network administrator for futher information. If you are a small workgroup (ie. 2 to 10 computers) then more than likely you have these items installed. Q. Why do I have to have these services installed? A. We use the File and Printer sharing service along with NetBEUI to build the graphical tree of computers that you click on to send a message to. We are currently working on a method of TCP alone to do this with. Until then we are forced to use this method. Q. Why can't I see any of the computers on our network? A. If you don't have NetBEUI along with File and Printer sharing installed, we aren't able to build the Tree that displays the computer names on your network. Please look at the OfficeTalk setup page for information on checking these items.
